Ian McFarlane
Ian, tell us how you wound up in Athens, GA.
I was born in Jacksonville, Florida and grew up in Atlanta. I came to Athens to study photography at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia, and I have lived here in Athens for thirty years.
What you do here in Athens?
I’m a photographer and owner of Ian McFarlane Photography, but I’m also a professional dog trainer, and I manage the studio of Brooklyn, NY/Athens, GA-based artist, Jim Herbert.
What makes Big City Bread Cafe special for you?
I’ve been lucky to live across the street from Big City Bread Cafe for twenty years. I was possibly the second or third customer on opening day.

Do you have a favorite Big City memory?
“Having a burger on the Big City Bread Cafe patio with friends on a cool fall evening cannot be beat.”

Ian enjoys burgers with fries, and hanging out with friends on the Big City Bread Cafe shaded courtyard under the Elms.
What’s your favorite thing on the menu?
My favorite late morning starter is the Big City Bread Cafe chocolate croissant with a cup of tea— while I check my email for the day on the shaded courtyard. I also really like the lamb burger special and any of the Big City Bread Cafe burgers with fries.
