Big City Bread Cafe/Meet the Regulars: Myron and Anita
Meet two of our favorite REGULARS
at Big City Bread Cafe:
Myron & Anita
Anita, tell us a bit about you and Myron— how long have you lived in Athens?
We moved here in 1991 when our oldest was 4 months old. We love Athens because there are so many little unique places and fun people that make Athens special.
What do you do here in Athens, Georgia?
My husband and I have deep roots in Athens-Clarke County. We own two veterinary businesses (Athens Veterinary Surgery Center and Animal Emergency Hospital). We also live in the heart of the city in the Five Points neighborhood. We practically raised our kids at Memorial Park. We have also served on several community boards (eg. Athens Area Community Foundation, Georgia Options, Foundation for Excellence, Gladiator Touchdown Club).
Our four children went to Barrow Elementary, Clarke Middle and Clarke Central High School. I think we have walked or driven through every neighborhood in town and we have spent more afternoons than we care to admit searching for the best spot for a picnic or the highest location to watch the sun set.
How long have you been a Regular at Big City?
We have been going to BCBC from the beginning. I can remember when the bakery occupied just a part of the space, and you could smell the yeast and the bread baking. We regularly get a baguette for dinner.
“The patio has no rival in Athens!”

What makes Big City Bread Cafe special for you?
Like most businesses, BCBC has had many different people work there over the years. The common denominator is they are all super sweet people who deliver the best atmosphere to go with the best food. The menu is consistent and the quality of the food is excellent. We have often had birthday brunches, anniversary dinners and office meetings at BCBC. The patio has no rival in Athens!
When I was suffering from a disk rupture in my neck, I would spend part of the afternoon on the patio, nursing a bowl of soup. The staff was always so friendly and helpful. They would just let me sit there as long as I needed.
“Super sweet people who deliver the best atmosphere to go with the best food.”
What’s your favorite thing on the menu?
I am a BLT with fries chick. BCBC has the best fries in town! My husband is a fan of the tahini salad and peanut butter cookies. My entire family is biscuit crazy, and we have been known to get a large biscuit order to go to round out our own brunch at home. If I had to choose my favorite thing, it would be the mood-altering, you're having a bad day, worth a drive down Prince Ave, soul-reviving chocolate star!
What’s your favorite time to visit Big City Bread Cafe?
“My husband likes to go in the morning. It's quiet and a great way to start your day. I love to go in the late afternoon, when the lunch rush is over. I watch the birds fill up on crumbs or take dust baths on the pavers. The sunlight filters through the small-leafed trees. It's heaven.”
